GMC JC Women's Golf hosts First Official Golf Recruit

The GMC Women's Golf program was pleased to host the first official visit from a recruit for the new Women's Golf program.  Samika Jefferson, from Georgia Washington Carver High School in Birmingham, AL made the trip over on Friday, November 10th.  After taking in the campus on a tour, meeting with the Admissions office, attending the Veteran's Day Parade and Ceremony at the Veteran's Home, she enjoyed a round of golf at Great Waters at the Reynolds Plantation property at Lake Oconee. A round of golf that program supporter, Charlie Finch (pictured with Samika), helped arrange. 

The dedicated student leader, whose goal is to on day go to the United States Coast Guard Academy to Lead, Honor and Serve fellow citizens and country, was excited to be on campus. She has demonstrated her focused as an Athlete, making Varsity team all three years played as well as leading her teammates in 2017-18 as the Golf Team Captian for the Carver Rams. As an accomplished musician she was appointed as Section Leader for all cellists at Carver high school during 2017-18 academic year. Samika was assigned as Team Captain for Carver High School "We the People" constitution competition team as well all the while volunteering to tutor her peers and younger students in Math and English 2016-2018.

"We could not have asked for a better first official recruit to visit us here at GMC. Samika is a very talented young lady, both on and off the golf course. We are excited that she is considering GMC as a viable option to continue her academic process as well as compete for the new Women's Golf team in Fall of 2018.  Her easy going personality and level headedness will translate to success both in the classroom and on the golf course", stated Coach Sean Gillespie.

Volunteered for disaster recovery during 2016 Tornados.

Attended various church retreats for the Alabama Southern Baptist Convention.

Member of the Church Band.

Volunteered over 63 Hours in 2016-2017.

Led Fine Arts outreach program for elementary students.
