GMC JC Women's Golf hosts Elena Denny '19

The month of December has been a very busy month for the GMC JC Women's golf program with committments, signings, and recruits visiting the campus.  Recently Elena Denny, a junior at North Oconee High School, visited the Georgia Military College campus and played a round at one of the teams practice facilities, Great Waters of Reynolds Plantation.  Elena has had quite the career so far on the golf course as was the Athens Banner-Herald HS Girls Player of the Year (2017), named to the Jackson EMC All-Area team (2017), and was the low medalist at the Lady Titan Classic (2017), all as a Sophomore in High School.  She is approaching her Junior season in the spring of 2018 with the goal of buidling on past successes.

"Elena's drive for excellence is evident in the way she works to refine all areas of her game, and she approaches every tournament round with a competitive fire. She is not intimidated by any shot, hole, or golf course. Elena's golf coach is Top 5 in the State and it shows in her polished, fluid golf swing as well as how fundamentally sound she is in all phases. Elena is a leader both on her HS golf team and among her classmates in school. She is recognized as one of the most well-rounded students in her school and is respected by teammates and coaches alike. She is a seasoned competitor and is the type of "gamer" that every golf team needs", stated Chris Manzi, NSR Area Scout.

Elena's success are not only limited to the golf course as she is sporting a 3.8 GPA in the classroom, named to the National Society of HS Scholars, member of the NOHS Student Council, is a part of the Beta Club and an FCA Huddle Leader. "I learned at an early age to set high standards for myself in everything that I do. I set both academic and athletic goals -- academically, by putting my academics first and taking honors and college level classes; and athletically, by practicing with a purpose and continue to play in tournaments with a high level of competition that challenges me. Golf is a big part of my life and has taught me a lot about myself. It has shown me not only who I am as an athlete, but how I face challenges and have the perseverance to push through them. I continue to work on the mental aspect of my game as well as course management. I feel confident in the time I have prior to entering college, by playing on my high school team and competing in highly competitive tours, I will continue to improve my game in all areas", Elena stated.

"It did not take me long to understand that Elena Denny is not only a good golfer but that she is going to be successful in reaching her goals, both on and off the golf course.  I was very impressed with the way she carried herself on the golf course.  We come across alot of golfers as golf coaches, some of which just play and go through the motions but it is clear that Elena plays the game because she loves it and is up to the challenge of getting better and reaching her potential.  We would love to see her join the Bulldog family in the Fall of 2019", stated Sean Gillespie, Head Coach.
