The 2018/19 season was a very successful one for the GMC Men's Soccer program, and that success brought a number of firsts: the first time any GMC men's soccer team has qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament (where 12 teams compete for the Championship); the first time any GMC men's soccer team has been ranked #1 in the Nation (for 3 consecutive weeks in October); the first time any GMC men's soccer program has had two All-Americans in the same year!
Ending the season with a record of 14-4-1, from a very tough schedule, was an achievement in itself. Becoming Region 17 champions, South East District finalists and National Tournament participants was made possible due to a lot of hard work and belief on the part of the entire squad. Being ranked #1 for several weeks was a recognition of the commitment the players made to having a winning season. Having two players named All-Americans reflects well on the entire squad – Charlie Braithwaite and Francisco Arias, who both received that honor, would be the first to point out the contribution of their fellow teammates.
As the 2018/2019 sophomore class begin to make their commitments to four-year institutions the attention now turns to the returners from this successful squad, along with the incoming new recruits, to see if they can make the 2019/2020 season as successful!
