After playing a very demanding schedule to start the season the Softball Bulldogs have started playing some very good softball. A little over half way through the season the Dogs sit at 26-11 overall and 12-0 in conference. Those wins include a 19-1 stretch with a 13-0 winning streak, which is still in progress. That 13 game winning streak is the longest in GMC Softball history!
All of these great numbers are a team effort. The strength of the team continues to be the pitching with a team ERA of 2.17. Sophomores Mackensie Poynter and Sarah Middleton both have 12 wins on the season and freshmen Laura Lee Keene and Celeste Turner have contributed quality innings.
Offensively, the team started off a little slowly but during the winning streak have raised the team batting average by 40 points. Leading the way is Cathleen Nugue with 8 Home Runs and 38 RBI. Lindsey South, Kaedy Borst, Emily Dansby, Hunter Meadows, and Sarah Middleton are all hitting at over .300. In addition, there have been many clutch hits and pinch hits from starters and bench players. The team also likes to run, leading the conference with 76 stolen bases.
Lauren King and Kaedy Borst have been named GCAA Player of the Week during the course of the season. Sarah Middleton and Mackensie Poynter have been named GCAA Pitcher of the Week. Sarah has held the honor 4 times.
This is going to be an exciting final month of the season as the Bulldogs seek their second consecutive regular season conference championship and a chance to go to the NJCAA Softball Championships for the third time in the last 4 years.
If you get a chance, check this team out. They're fun to watch!
