Bulldogs Capture 2019 NJCAA DIII Regional Championship

Luke Ninneman and Trey May posted identical two round scores of 158 as they paced the Bulldogs to their third straight NJCAA DIII Regional Championship in a two day event held at Chateau Elan Resort. The 158 also landed the two as over 8th place finishers in the full field tournament that combined DII and DIII schools and 43 total golfers.

The slick greens and challenging layout took some hostages, but the Bulldogs hung tough in defense of their championship title, one which they have held a record eight times. Ninneman got off to a great start posting a 78 on day one to lead his team and land himself inside the top six overall. But it was Trey May's second round 76 just two strokes off the day two low round that helped secure the championship.  Bulldog's #1 player Dusty Watts, recovered from what he characterized as an "off day"  on day 1, to post a 77 on day two for a combined total of 160 good enough for 13th overall and 4th DIII. Coby Eunice post the remaining qualifying score of 176 to round out the Bulldogs scoring. Bulldog Sophomore John James started the tournament strong posting an 80 on day one putting himself in T2nd in his division and 11th position overall, but had to withdraw for medical reason and could not complete the event.

GMC's 647 total (324-323) was 17 strokes better than DIII runner Oxford College of Emory. The score was also good enough to place the Bulldogs  in 3rd overall. Coach Van Horn noted "It was a great week for us, the guys are excited to get to back to work and prepare to represent GMC well at Nationals." As the team sets their sights on a National Championship they will no doubt rely on experience as 2018 All-American's May (T5) Ninneman(11th) return for another shot at a Championship. May commented "It's a really nice course and fits my game."

The 2019 NJCAA Championship will take place at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York June 4-7. The bulldog's make their third consecutive trip to Chautauqua and have a strong record at their which includes a 2017 Championship and a third place finish in 2018.
