Men's Soccer picked up their first win of the season on Saturday as they filled the net with 5 goals and held the Patriots scoreless. The Bulldogs controlled the game from start to finish and gave the Patriots no breathing room.
This game showcased the skill and talent of this Bulldog side with crisp passing, and speed creating many opportunities. The Bulldogs fired 19 shots on the day led by Nico Milot's 4 shots. On the defensive side, Salvatore Mazza shared time with Jake Toogood and combined for 5 saves in a light day's work, thanks do the outstanding play of the Bulldogs' backline led by Renan Fiore who is seeing action in his first game for GMC.
Juan Manuel Molina started the scoring at the 14-minute mark off a nice pass from Harry Noble. Just 3 minutes later Nico Milot found the back of the net off a pass from Alvaro Parra. The Bulldogs would have four more good scoring chances but were turned away on one with a nice save by the PHC goalie, then missed the cage on the others and the half ending 2-0.
The second half opened with more of the same - the Bulldogs finding many paths to the goal and possessing the ball and PHC trying to find a solution to the Bulldogs' staunch backline. Alfie Madden and Juan David Herrera kept constant pressure on the PHC defense. At the 60 minute mark, Herrera dished one to Madden who jammed one by the PHC goalie. 10 minutes later Madden returned the favor setting up Herrera for a beautiful goal. Jose Pizarro picked up his first goal of the year at the 80-minute mark to close out the scoring.
The win is just what the Bulldogs needed as they head south for two very tough opponents including #5 ranked Eastern Florida. Coach Sexton praised the leadership of his Sophomore Captain Alfie Madden, "He is a great example of who we are as a team." Sexton added, "We really came together as a team, showed good spirit and worked hard for each other."
The Bulldogs travel south for their next two games against Broward College in 9/14 and #5 Eastern Florida on 9/15. Their next home game will be 9/18 at 5 pm against Savannah College of Art and Design.
