The GMC Junior College Cross Country team battle the heat and delivered their best race of the season at the Willie Laster Invitational hosted by Albany College on 28 Sept.

In the women's race, a third member of the team qualified for the NJCAA National Championships.  Shundrenna Harris joined her teammates Abigail Gash and Treeaunna Whiting who had previously had qualified.  All three led the team, who finished in 6th place overall in the race.  Jessica Sinno and Annestelle Montalbano finished up the scoring runners for the women's team.  Almost every runner ran a season's best.  Head Coach Rob Sherwood said, "This team is so much fun.  It has been enjoyable to see each runner improve through this season."  There is one race left, the GCAA/NJCAA Region 17 Championships that GMC will host at Council Farms on 16 October.  GMC was ranked 6th in the most recent NJCAA Division III rankings.

The men's team also ran well, led by Bryce Samples, who returned to racing after a multi-week injury layoff, finished in 19th place.  Christopher Flynn (22nd), Brett Darling (35th), Elijah Lopez (60th) and Gianni Corbo (64th) finished out the scoring for the team, who finished in 7th out of 10 teams.  GMC was only 10 points from 5th place.  Coach Sherwood was left impressed by the race "The men ran well.  Getting Samples back is a large boost for the squad. It will help as we prepare for the Conference Championships."

The teams will compete next at the GCAA/NJCAA Region 17 Championships that GMC is hosting at  Council Farms on 16 October at 5:30 pm.
