GMC Softball Making It Rain

GMC Softball scores 23 runs on 18 hits and picks up two wins in the weekend double header with Sinclair Community College. Kelley Bagarose and Jessica Owens led the way with 5 RBI's each and Brianna Painter went 4 for 6 with 4 RBI's.

 

Game one started slow for the Bulldogs as Sinclair jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 2 innings, but the Bulldogs came roaring back scoring runs in each of the next 4 innings to close out the game. Caroline Hughes got the scoring started as she blasted her first HR of the year, a 2-run shot to left center. Kelley Bagarose hit a solo HR in the 4th to tie the game.

Sinclair regained the lead in the top of the 5th scoring two runs. The Bulldogs, however, would not be denied as they picked up 9 runs in the final two innings, thanks in large to two Grand Slams, one by Kelley Bagarose in the 5th and one by Jessica Owens in the 6th. Sinclair had runners in scoring position in the 6th, with a chance to even the score, but Laura Lee Keene came in and forced a double play ball to end the threat. Beth Eddins picked up her league leading 4th win of the year, striking out 3 and Neely Bradford got the save.

Early errors put the Bulldogs in a hole early in game two as they fell behind 4-0 after 2innings. Kelley Bagarose scored on a bases loaded walk by Autumn Land, to get the Bulldogs on the board. But Sinclair stretched the lead to 6-2 by the bottom of the 4th. Neely Bradford kept Sinclair off the board in the 5th inning and allowed the Bulldogs to cut the lead to 6-4 as Kennedy Coffey blasted a 2-run shot for her 5th HR of the season. In the 6th Brianna Painter split the gap between left and center for a 2-run triple and then scored on a single by Coffey, giving the Bulldogs the lead and a chance to close the game out. Sinclair picked up two unearned runs off of Bulldog errors to squeak back into the lead, and force the Bulldogs to answer in the bottom of the 7th and they did as Hughes fired a double to left center for the game tying RBI to send the game to extra innings. 

Extra innings starts with a runner in scoring position, but each team was held scoreless in the 8th. Sinclair picked up a run in the top of the 9th, before Bradford shut them down. In the bottom of the ninth the Bulldogs turned to their bats to bail them out. Jessica Owens led off with a double scoring Coffey, and Anna Grace Boutelle drove her in with a seeing-eye single to seal the game.

Neely Bradford went the distance in this game to earn her second win of the year.

As of February 18th GMC sits atop the conference in Runs scored 106, RBI's-89, Homeruns-11, Stolen Bases -26. Additionally the following individuals are also conference leaders. Pitching wins (Beth Eddins - 4), RBI's (Jessica Owens-17), Home Runs (Kennedy Coffey-5), Stolen Bases (Caroline Hughes-8), Saves (Beth Eddins, Neeley Bradford 1).

 

The Bulldogs will be back in action Saturday, February 22 as they will travel to Spartanburg Methodist for a double heard starting at 1:00pm.
