GMC Bats Blazing in Sweep of GCAA Foe East Georgia State College

GMC Softball scored 15 runs on 18 hits with 9 home runs including a walk-off 2 run shot by Kelley Bagarose, giving them the win in game two of their GCAA opening doubleheader with East Georgia State College. Kelley Bagarose, Kennedy Coffey and Jessica Owens each have a pair of homes runs, while Brianna Painter picked up her second of the year. Neely Bradford and Autumn Land blasted their first collegiate home runs. Beth Eddins got her sixth win of the season in game one with 6 K's and holding EGSU to just three hits. Neely Bradford took the win in game 2 while giving up no runs on 2 1/3 innings.

The Bulldogs snapped a 6 game losing streak with the help of some live bats on Wednesday at Couch field. The 9-9 East Georgia State Bobcats came in riding a string of success and the Bulldogs needed to get off to a good a start, in which they did. Beth Eddins picked up some early K's, the defense was strong and the Bulldogs were hitting the ball hard. No runs were scored but everyone sensed it would just be a matter of time. In the 4th inning back to back home runs by Kennedy Coffee and Jessica Owens got the scoring started. Kelley Bagarose scored on a Maddie Weathers single, giving the Bulldogs the lead. They tacked on 3 more runs in the 5th with a Briana Painter Solo HR and a 2 run shot by Kelley Bagarose. EGSU scored in the 6th but strong defense and good pitching by Beth Eddins shut the door and preserved a 6-3 win.

In-game two, the Bulldogs got up early with a solo HR by Jess Owens in the 2nd.  They picked up three more runs in the 4th on a solo HR by Neely Bradford and 2 runs shot by Autumn Land. Painter scored on fielder's choice to give the Bulldogs a 6-3 lead. Laura Lee Keene pitched strong, striking out 3 early. In the 6th, the Bulldogs got in a jam and gave the lead away with fielding and throwing error. Neely Bradford came in to relieve Keene in the 5th to sit the Bobcats down and keeping the game within reach. The Bulldogs entered the bottom of the 7th down by 2 runs and the top of their order due up. After two long fly outs, the Bulldogs were down to their last out when Kennedy Coffey stepped up to the plate. On the third pitch, she blasted a shot to right field cutting the lead to 1.  Jessica Owens reached on balls to put the tying run on first. Kelly Bagarose stepped into the batter's box with the game on the line and launched a walk-off two-run homer (which might still be in the air) to end the game. Along with getting her first collegiate home run, Neely Bradford picked up her fifth win. Kelly Bagarose and Kennedy Coffey bolstered their home run totals to a league-leading by picking up their 8th HR's of the year.

The Bulldogs will be back in action Friday, March 13 as they host Gordon State starting at 4:00pm.
