GMC Golf Goes Pin Hunting at the Bulldog Classic

This week, the men's golf team was in action as they hosted the Bulldog Classic at the Harbor Club. Two Bulldogs made All-Tournament, and the team placed 2nd overall in a diverse field of NJCAA and NAIA schools.

The Bulldogs, led by tournament runner up, Austin Quillian, opened the tournament with a 73 to share the lead with a teammate, Peter Thayer. Quillian fired a 2nd round of 75 and came up one shot shy of taking the Medalist honors. Peter Thayer followed his 73 with a 79 and finished 5th overall. Noah Hankins finished 13th overall with a 77-82. Rounding out the scores for the Bulldogs were Baily Whitton (27th, 174), Joe Collins (30th, 180), Austin Mills (T32nd, 189), Ethan Comer (T32nd, 189), Mason Cain (T34th, 193), Tyler Harris (T34th, 193)

The top 5 finishers were Drew Green - Spartanburg Methodist CC – 147, Austin Quillian - GMC-148, Gus Proctor Truett-McConnell 150, Peyton Shedd - Truett-McConnell 151, Peter Thayer - GMC-152

Another winner was the Harbor Club course; the deep rough, slick greens were a real test for the players. The course superintendent likes to make his course a test for the college kids and noted, four subpar rounds are OK, more than that, and we need to do something different. Tournament Director and Head Coach, Charles Van Horn had this to say, "I am happy with most of what happened this week. Many players played better than expected, but we still have some work to do to be on top in June." He continued, "You know I think this event worked out well. It's a lot of work to put something like this on, but when you have the help of a good team and a pro like Keith Kelly, it makes it a bit easier."

Tournament Assistant Director and GMC Assistant AD, Greg Zecca commented, "It was a great event, Harbor Club is such a fantastic venue. Keith Kelly and his team did everything we needed in a first-class manner." He continued, "At GMC, we pride ourselves on excellence in everything we do, and I think this event, at this location, on this course is reflective of that."

The Bulldogs will tee it up again October 12-13 at the AAC Fall Preview at Barnsley Resort - Adairsville, GA.
