The Georgia Military College Bulldog Softball team traveled to Florida this past weekend to take the field against a powerful Northwest Florida State team that currently leads the country in home runs and RBI's. While they could not come home with a win, the young squad continues to show glimpses of greatness.
In game one, the Bulldogs got production at the plate from Jessica Owens and Makensey Sapp, who each picked up two hits, including a home run. Sapp ended with three RBI's in the game. Jana Shellhorse and Layla Barron combined for three strikeouts but were not able to silence the Raiders' bats. When facing a powerful hitting team, fielding becomes the key, and four errors resulting in six runs put the bulldogs too deep in the hole.
Game two started better for the Bulldogs, and after three, the game was tied 3-3 thanks to a Brianna Painter HR in the third. Mckenzie Graves also went yard to give the bulldogs a chance, but the Raiders scored 6 in the final inning to close the door. Beth Eddins and Layla Barron combined for 4 K's in the circle.
The Bulldogs travel to USC Salkehatchie on February 11 and will be back at home against Brewton Parker on February 16.
