Roy Upchurch is entering his 2nd season with GMC as the Running Backs coach. He tutored a very talented Bulldog backfield in his first season and helped assist in an 8-3 football season. The Bulldog backfield successfully amassed almost 1800 yards and 23 TDs.TJ Jones Scored eight touchdowns and rushed for 458 yards on 56 carries (8.2 ypc average), with season-best 140 yards and three TDs at Hocking College, including a 93-yard TD run. Jones later signed to Tusculum Pioneers.

Upchurch is in his 8th season of coaching with experience on and off the field. Upchurch also worked as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of South Carolina in 2016, working with Will Muschamp and Jeff Dillman.

In 2013, Upchurch worked with Jimbo Fisher as Quality Control Assistant. He also assisted Jay Graham with daily on and off the field activities for the Florida State program. He helped develop Devonta Freeman and James Wilder into successful pro players and contributed to the Seminoles BCS National Title and ACC Championship.

In 2014, Upchurch served as Running Backs at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL, while working with Chris Weinke with recruiting student-athletes. Tony Jones Jr, Taven Birdow, and Jack Wegher played under Upchurch's direction and later signed with Notre Dame, Air Force, and Purdue.

Upchurch has served as a speed and agility consultant at JDPI Sports Performance in Tuscaloosa from 2011-13, preparing athletes for combine training.

Following his career at Alabama, Upchurch received a Free Agent tryout with the Baltimore Ravens but failed physically because of a neck injury. Upchurch later was invited to coach by former Alabama O-line Coach Joe Pendry in the 2011 Crampton Bowl in Montgomery, Al in which began his coaching career.

Upchurch has coached and garnered various skills and experiences coaching and training since graduating from the University of Alabama in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in Science. He was recognized as Alabama's 2 times "Iron Man of the Year" for 2008-09 and a 2009 Crimson Tide National and SEC Championship Team member. Upchurch was a 2-year letterman with the Tide.

A standout prep athlete, Upchurch was the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Athlete of the Year in 2005 and was honored as PARADE All-American and had his jersey No. 5 permanently retired at Amos P. Godby High School. 

Roy is married to the former Tamia Johnson of Birmingham, AL. They have two children, Royal and Royce Upchurch.
