Georgia Military College turned in a dominant showing on Thursday, sweeping Georgia Highlands College in a doubleheader at Couch Field with decisive wins of 9–1 and 8–0.
The Bulldogs wasted no time in the opener, applying immediate pressure in the bottom of the first inning. Two early walks set the stage, and Georgia Military College opened the scoring when Sophia Boutelle drew a bases-loaded walk. Kayleigh Hester followed with another walk later in the frame to bring home an additional run. Momentum carried into the second inning, as Boutelle delivered a single up the middle to drive in two more runs and extend the lead to 4.
Georgia Military College broke the game open in the third inning by capitalizing on defensive miscues, with run-scoring errors credited to Olivia Bridger and Jayna Kearson allowing three more runs to cross the plate. The Bulldogs added one final exclamation point in the fourth inning when Hester launched a solo home run to left field.
Claire Clements earned the start in the circle and delivered a steady performance, working five innings while allowing just one run on four hits and striking out four.
Offensively, Boutelle anchored the lineup, driving in three runs and finishing a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate. Kearson recorded three hits in four at-bats, while the Bulldogs showed discipline throughout the lineup, drawing six walks overall. Boutelle and Hester each earned two free passes.
The nightcap followed a similar script, with Georgia Military College striking early and decisively. In the bottom of the first inning, Kearson energized the dugout with a two-run home run to left field. A defensive error allowed another run to score before Hester knocked in one more with a sharp single, giving the Bulldogs a four-run advantage.
Georgia Military College maintained control throughout the game behind efficient pitching and balanced offense. Mackenzi Trull delivered a highlight moment in the fifth inning, blasting a solo home run to left field to further stretch the lead.
Meredith Durden was outstanding in the circle, tossing six scoreless innings while allowing just three hits. The right-hander kept Georgia Highlands College off balance, and off the scoreboard all game to secure the shutout.
The Bulldogs finished game two with 11 hits, showcasing depth across the lineup. Bridger and Clements each collected two hits, while Kearson, Ana Land, and Hester drove in two runs apiece. The defense matched the offensive effort, turning a clean double play to erase a potential scoring opportunity.
With the doubleheader sweep, Georgia Military College continued to establish itself as one of the conference's top teams. The Bulldogs return to action on April 9 at 5:00 p.m. when they host South Georgia State College at Couch Field.
