Pitching Leads Bulldogs to Sweep at Gordon State College

Outstanding performances in the circle and timely offense powered Georgia Military College to a doubleheader sweep of Gordon State College on Saturday, as the Bulldogs claimed victories of 2–1 and 5–2.

The opener featured a classic pitching duel, highlighted by a complete-game effort from Claire Clements. Clements limited the Highlanders to just five hits, allowed no earned runs, and struck out two in a commanding performance.

Georgia Military College struck first in the top of the first inning when Sophia Boutelle drove in a run. Gordon State responded in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on a GMC error to even the score. That would stand as the lone run allowed the rest of the way by Clements.

The Bulldogs regained the lead in the fourth inning when a passed ball allowed the go-ahead run to score. From there, the GMC defense and Clements closed the door, preserving the one-run victory.

Offensively, Jayna Kearson and Ella Ashley each collected two hits, while Boutelle's RBI proved to be the difference.

Georgia Military College carried its momentum into the nightcap, once again leaning on strong pitching. Meredith Durden turned in another complete-game performance, striking out two and keeping Gordon State off balance throughout the contest.

After four scoreless innings, GMC broke through in the top of the fifth. Kayleigh Hester jump-started the scoring with a solo home run to center field, and the Bulldogs capitalized on defensive miscues to add more runs. Clements punctuated the rally with an RBI single as GMC plated five runs in the inning to take control.

Gordon State answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth, but Durden remained composed and finished strong. Hester and Clements each drove in a run for the Bulldogs, while the GMC defense turned a key double play to seal the victory.

With disciplined execution on both sides of the ball, Georgia Military College delivered a complete team effort in the sweep. The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday at Andrew College, with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
