MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Georgia Military College leaned on a standout performance from Claire Clements and a decisive six-run sixth inning to pull away from Andrew College for a 9–1 victory Tuesday, April 21.
Clements anchored the Bulldogs' offense with a three-hit afternoon, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. The sophomore opened the scoring in the second inning by launching a solo home run to right field, setting the tone early for GMC. She stayed hot at the plate, ripping a double down the left-field line in the third to help extend the lead, and added another double in the sixth as part of Georgia Military's late surge.
The Bulldogs broke the game open in the sixth inning. Olivia Bridger delivered the biggest blow of the frame with a bases-clearing triple. Sophia Boutelle followed with an RBI double, and Ana Land capped the rally with a two-run home run to center field as GMC plated six runs to put the contest out of reach.
Georgia Military's offense consistently pressured Andrew College throughout the afternoon. After Clements' home run in the second, the Bulldogs tacked on another run in the third following her double, then stretched the advantage in the fourth when Kylee Keck homered to center field. By game's end, GMC had amassed 15 hits, with Keck matching Clements with three of her own and Jayna Kearson adding two hits.
Jada Vickers earned the win in the circle, turning in six steady innings. The left-hander allowed four hits and just one unearned run while striking out one and walking two.
The Bulldogs also stayed aggressive on the basepaths, swiping three bases — two by Bridger — and turned a double play defensively to help control the tempo.
With the victory, Georgia Military extended its winning streak to 16 games. With five games remaining, the Bulldogs sit comfortably in first place in the GCAA and can secure the regular-season championship Saturday when they host the Tigers for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
