Coach Charles "Chuck" Van Horn III took the lead of the GMC Golf Program in 2018. He believes that "no one ever played better than they prepared." Coach Van Horn has a tireless work ethic and expects the same from his athletes both on the course and in the classroom.
Coach Van Horn is very passionate about golf, which has led to a 32-year career in designing clubs and coaching. Chuck has led his teams to 15 conference and regional championship appearances. Most recently, he led the GMC Men's team to the 2019 NJCAA National Championship. He values honesty in recruiting and is committed to motivating and developing high-performance athletes resulting in elite-level success.
Chuck holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from Benedictine University and a Technical Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Morrison Institute of Technology. Chuck began his career as a Research and Design Engineer at a manufacturing company but soon became a firefighter and paramedic. In addition to coaching, he spent 22 years at the Aurora Illinois Fire Department, where he was Senior Medic, Firefighter Level III, Hazmat Incident Commander, and Master SCUBA Diver. He leveraged his engineering background as a Field Supervisor for a commercial precast construction company for 18 years in his off-hours, overseeing more than $100 million in new projects.
